Chapter One It was a breezy day as Mogleo walked through the Mist mountainside. After a nice journey through the caves, he was ready to see these Hummingways he's heard so much about. The brave warrior looked up, smiling at the bright sun.
"What a great day!"
He reached into a pocket on his cape, and pulled out a Kupo Nut. He loved Kupo Nuts, like all Moogles did. I didn't mention Mogleo was a moogle? Indeed, he stood at 2'5 and was covered in white fur. He had purple bat wings, a red nose, and a yellow pompom. Yes, your typical moogle....except Mogleo had the strength of a warrior, donning a gray cape, gray headband, and a black belt, Mogleo was skilled in using a spear. He often traveled through dangerous places to see rare sights, such as the caves to Mist.
As he neared the forest before the village, he noticed the wind becoming thicker and hotter. He threw the capes hood on, and ran faster towards the forest, spear in hand....but it was as he feared. His eyes widened, as he could see great fires in the distance...but it wasn't just any fire...
It was dragon fire.

Hearing the screams of all the people had grown up around from behind him, tears built up in Ufriete's eyes. The forest seemed to be becoming denser as he tried to find ways to cross around the tightly knit trees. Just moments before, trees had been diffused and Ufriete could breach the spaces between them fairly easily; now, as if to bar his escape, the trees were very close together. Ufriete was made to pause at every tree with just small enough space to fit his small body through. More than once, his shoe had gotten caught in the space between two trees and made him fall flat on his face, wet mud from a recent rain staining his clothes with brown smears.
Dirty tears streaming down his face as he sprinted through the closing in trees, hoping that this forest was not as expansive as the Elderingways said they were. In fact, Ufriete knew of many things they said to be false, so there was no doubt that the forest being too expansive to get to the outside world was probably a lie to keep all who dared leaving the village within the surrounding field. Determined to escape with this knowledge in mind, Ufriete picked up his speed and stretched his bodies through openings deftly and confidently, sure of finding some sort of exit. As he ran, the screams and the crackling of the fire began to die down, but the stench of ash and decay still hung thickly in the air, causing Ufriete to cough every few minutes.
And then, as he was nearing the other side of the forest, before he ran out into the freedom of an opening, Ufriete found his leg caught by something and was suddenly thrown up into the air, flipping wildly until smashing into a tree. Eyes drooping out of the daze the impact set upon him, Ufriete saw a small creature near where he had just been, obviously what he had tripped on. This creature was a curious beast with little yellow pom-pom and demonic-looking wings. Oh no... Trouble... Ufriete thought to himself, worried that maybe in trying to flee from all the trouble, he had run right into some sort of evil messenger.
"What are you?!" he yelped, not very loudly because of the lack of air from hitting his back hard against the tree. Shivers of shock ran through his body as the creature turned around to look at Ufriete.

The small moogle looked up at the strange creature. "I could ask you the same." He said with a laugh. He then quickly shook his head. "We can introduce ourselves later, we need to get out of here before the fire spreads to the rest of the forest." And with that, he grabbed the young creature by the hand, leading it out of the dangerous woods. It looked very upset, obviously it had been crying. Mogleo feared what may have happened, as the two quickly approached light.
"Finally! We're safe..."
Mogleo sadly turned to the creature. "I'm Mogleo. I'm the only Moogle left. I promise you though, I'm not evil, kupo." He said, taking his hood off, revealing his full face, scar and all. Mogleo smiled. "What's your name? And what are you? I've only seen humans, and you sure aren't one of them. And also....what happened...? That was..dragon fire."

Sobbing quietly as the small creature asked him a few questions, Ufriete could not bring himself to answer of them. Imprinted in his mind was the picture of his burning village and the silhouette of the black dragon in the background. Hatred and sorrow were the two primary emotions he felt right now, and answering some stupid creature’s question was the last thing he had on his mind. However, after a few minutes, Ufriete calmed himself down and tried to answer the quests that Mogleo had answered. ”I’m a…a Hummingway…” Ufriete said between sobs, wiping his watery eyes of tears. ”I’m one of the first Hummingways on Earth. I don’t really know anything about this world; this is the first time I’ve been outside of the village. And yes, it was a giant black dragon that… that… set fire to my village…” Solemnly, Ufriete stared down at his furry brown feet, tired and sore of all the running he had had to go through in his escape.
