In addition to the birthdays of three famous footballers, Neymar, Cristiano Ronaldo and myself, February 5, 2018 is also marked by the integration of an SEO audit via the open source tool Lighthouse in Google Chrome . Maybe this is too much joy to manage in one go for you, but hold on, and enjoy these practical and free analyses. ;-)
More seriously, Google has published a press release to announce the addition of an SEO audit via Lighthouse in the firm's official browser . This will be available natively in Chrome Canary or can be used off page seo service with the Lighthouse extension for Google Chrome . The proposed SEO audit is simple to perform because you just need to use Chrome's developer tools and refresh the loaded web page for a test to be launched. If you prefer the Lighthouse extension then just click on the extension icon to launch a test.
The audit with Lighthouse has already existed in Google Chrome for a few months, but without the SEO-specific section. We therefore find 5 separate tests: performance, progressive web apps, accessibility, best practices and SEO . The audit is therefore quite complete and allows us to identify "troublesome" points. It is interesting to cross-reference this audit with other tools on the market such as Opquast, Yakaferci, Dareboost, etc. The interest is to have a more global vision of the points to improve to perpetuate your site and make it more efficient and pleasant for your users. At a time when the expression "UX" (for User eXperiment ) is on everyone's lips, it would be good to prove that we are doing the maximum for our users...
For example, I noticed during my audit that I had forgotten to add the rel="noopener" on my external links with a target="_blank" attribute (this adds "security" to the links opened to another tab). If this is incorporated in WordPress 4.7.4 and above, my "handmade" site was not lucky enough to receive everything in one go. Add to that the fact that Mozilla Firefox also takes into account the rel="noreferrer" attribute to hide the original source ( referrer ) when you arrive on another page (like the Qwant search engine for example). As a result, the audit allowed me to think about this point of detail which will correct my site somewhat.
Like any online tool and audit, a battery of tests is carried out and very specific criteria are analyzed. The values returned are "absolute", that is to say they tend towards an ideal. The higher the scores you get, the better, but put it into perspective if you don't get 100/100 for each score , it remains almost impossible on current sites full of technologies (especially Javascript which slows down the DOM and Google, etc.). Try to exceed 80/100 on the categories of criteria that seem appropriate for your users . In the example below taken from a page of my website Internet-Formation, we can see that I get 55/100 in progressive web apps for example. I don't care at all since my site is not a PWA at the time of writing these lines, so there is nothing shocking in seeing such a low score.

Take advantage of the extension to identify sensitive points in your site. Also tell yourself that certain indicators can give clues on the points that GoogleBot and others view when they crawl our web pages. Good SEO audit to all! ;-)
