Character Weapons: Lantern Staff - The Lantern Staff is a most curious weapon that resembles a gnarled old staff, looped around at the top, at which point a hanging lantern is hung, glowing similar to the light of Blink’s bottom. Oddly enough, the lantern does not break, even when bashed into the face of an enemy, but does not inflict much danger either. Blink often uses this staff as a walking stick to keep up the ruse of being a wise, old man.
Character Appearance: With the stark appearance of an actual firefly, Blink looks to be something of a twisted science phenomena to most who have never met any of the other imaginative critters that hail from the whimsical world of Gaia. But to other Gaians, Blink is a pretty usual type of guy, once you consider the fact that he may be the only firefly in the world. Holding true to the fact that nothing is unusual to the people [and other things] of Gaia, Blink fits in quite well with the population with his insectoid features. Some of his most prominent bug-like details would have to be a pair of amber orbs that take up about seventy-five percent of his face, two twitching antennas that hang just over his eyes, and a set of thin, transparent wings with an outline of wispy veins just below the surface that cause a network of ridges riddling his wings. Though he is an insect with wings, which are often thought of to allow for flight, his humanoid size of 5’4”, weight of 115 lbs, and the fragility of his paper-thin wings could not possibly lift Blink off the ground. In fact, Blink’s wings do not serve any other purpose than decoration, for they are both too fragile and two small to use as a sort of defense and they are not nearly think enough or strong enough to create anything over a slight breeze. This is a great talent for a hot summer day, though.
Blink, being the humanoid firefly he is, is expectantly wiry in the insectoid sense; he was long arms, with an arm span of about two yards, while being quite thin and narrow. The same goes for his legs, though these are a bit wider because of the calves, thighs, ankles, etc. that humanoids would receive being partially human in shape. The length of the smallest part of Blink’s legs, more towards the ankles, and most of his arms, are about the width of an adult-sized male wrist. This means that Blinks wrists are even smaller, but because of this and his insectoid extra-joints, this firefly is quite flexible, a trait he gained upon going from a squat bug with a big buttock to a gangly humanoid with the added flexibility on an insectoid. Despite all of this “long, thin, and narrow” crap, Blink legs are actually smaller in length than his arms giving him his lowly height of 5’4”. Most of this height is given to Blink by his torso, which appears to be stretched out as if by taffy-puller, the ribs being much farther down from his chest than what would be considered normal for a human. The firefly’s hands and feet are narrow with long fingers and toes to match the narrowness of his arms and legs. Blink’s most astonishing feature would have to be the large protruding sack of glowing light that thrusts itself out of wear his bottom would be on a human, and makes itself known usually from between his legs. It is this light that all of Blink’s magic-based powers originate from; though it does provide some sort of illumination in the darkness, though not enough to penetrate more than about five feet around him, the glow of the light comes from raw magic materials. Both the light sack and Blink’s body in conjunction act as a filter and catalyst for this raw magic material, changing it into whatever form of magic that Blink calls forth. During casting, a bit of magic is transferred from the source throughout Blink’s body, causing a temporary amber luminescence that would alert those with the right knowledge that Blink is casting. For the fun of it, Blink also enjoys adding in his own follow-up incantations or riddles to temporarily confuse his target, and probably a symptom of being a Gaian.
Since Blink is made up of a thin exoskeleton set upon his exterior, his skin is not near as smooth as human’s and is of a brown, almost gold shade. His two antennas serve as his hair and can detect the presence of a being of up to five feet around him, as can his light, though by this point it is understood that Blink will probably have already heard the being. Often times, out of habit, Blink will ritually move his antenna up against an object or a person to discern only the bare basics, such as race, gender, etc. if these features are not already clear through sight. This is a mere side-effect of being a firefly-humanoid that could be used for comedic purposes or furthering relations, as Blink also has the habit of rubbing his antennas against someone he considers pleasant company.
Character Personality: As is common with Gaians, though as strange as it may seem, most of the inhabitants are plain nutters. Now with this knowledge aside, Blink would seem right off the bat to be quite sane, especially if you had ever heard one of his wise quotes or one of his amazing deductions having to do with a variety of philosophies. But, as is custom, Blink has what you could call his “mad” side. Often times, many of the things Blink says make little to no sense; often enough, there is a hidden philosophical meaning behind his words, but occasionally Blink just blurts gibberish to give a conversation a subject. In crowds, which is normally uncommon in the widespread land of Wonderland, Blink can become a bit twitchy and even stressed, being a serious claustrophobic. On the off chance that a crowd is put before Blink and passage through said crowd is required to reach a goal, Blink will look for any loophole possible, even going as far as taking a trip across the rooftops of buildings, finding a way to get underground and under the crowd, etcetera. Though claustrophobia is a definite factor of his avoidance of crowds, Blink does not enjoy conversing with others unless he is curious about them in the first place. If that were the case, others around him would not know of Blink’s curiosity and thus would never attempt to converse in the first place. In short, Blink is not much of a conversationalist. On the off-chance that he does decide to speak with others, for whatever reason, there are sure to be intriguing, often puzzling philosophical comments included into the mix. It is often these comments and his introverted dispositions that make others veer away from Blink.
Despite the fact of his social-debilitation, Blink is still revered by most of population in a vicinity of his home to be a wise man and sometimes even a fortune teller. Once or twice a superstitious t raveler has stumbled upon Blink and his hut and has received a philosophical quote from him. Sometimes the traveler will boast to the townspeople that what Blink has told them is some sort of fortune telling or future sight, and every few years there are short periods of time in which Blink is publicly talked about as being some sort of gypsy. Either oblivious or uncaring to this, Blink simply appeases anyone requesting a fortune telling. In a sense, this is a little inside-game to Blink; see how many townspeople you can deceive into believing your fortune tellings are legit. It is because of this that Blink is also known for his good-natured trickery and mischief.
Though on the outside, Blink can be perceived as a wise old man who likes to have a little fun with mind games once in a while, Blink considers himself to be more immature than what others may believe. Though this may be a side-effect of his unending wisdom, Blink has a strong belief that no one really grows up and no matter what you say or what you do; everyone has childish thoughts more than just once in a while. Blink is also very skilled in hiding his feelings. Though he almost always keeps a static “intent” expression, as if he is intrigued by everything you are saying and everything you are thinking, there is no telling what is truly going on behind those big amber eyes. Most of the time, Blink is thinking of other topics when he is being spoken to, but is great with recovery when posed with a question. Because of this, Blink is a master when it comes to getting himself out of answering a question that requires a pretty detailed response, especially if he isn’t quite sure of anything the person said.
As stated before, Blink has a slight fear of enclosed spaces, especially when the spaces are filled with moving, talking people who are just obstacles in the way of whatever he is attempting to do. He also has an extreme fear of death, going so far as to research any way to prevent such an occurrence. This is definitely Blink’s weak point, as he is often seen as calm, collected, and wise, never one to overreact over something as natural as death.
Blink is not as interested in fighting, battling, or duking it out as most adventurers such as himself are; he is almost considered a pacifist of sorts. Now, when it comes to the use of magic, Blink considers this, with the most solemn of expressions, as an art rather than a fighting style, whether it be used for battle, creation, or beauty. The use of magic in battle comes naturally with no regrets; Blink believes that if he ever does need to protect himself, the art of magic would be suitable and leave him feeling no remorse with anyone that got in the way of his line of fire.
Blink could be easily considered a giant quirk in himself. I mean, he’s a giant bug! If that isn’t a quirk, I don’t know what it is. However, he does have some personality quirks, such as his slight madness remnant of Gaia as well as his mischievous yet wise nature. He also takes most situations very slowly and calmly, especially when it comes to battle. He treats each fight as a chess game and finds out the best way to rid himself of his enemy.
Character History: Just as most of the critters in Wonderland, Blink tends to claim that he just “appeared” into existence when asked about his origins. The first thing he could remember was a memory of a child-sized Blink calming slowly through the forest, observing the woodland animals scurrying to and fro, staring at the curious trees, some of them green, some of them blue, some bent over, some in a curlicue. Though it did no necessarily intrigue him, per say, there was much to think about when looking at a forest like this, even if the oddities of the forest were all you had ever known. On Earth, we study all the different types of trees whether we know what they are or not, so with the large variety of trees of Wonderland, there is bound to be someone who ponders over them. And this is just what Blink did; he sat in front of one, cross-legged, peering up at the branches that appeared to be hands, curling inwards and then uncurling back outwards. The motives of this movement were unknown to Blink, but this was what he attempted to study, to discover what the tree could possibly accomplish by curling and uncurling. After a half hour or so, Blink began to get tired of watching the tree eternally curl in and out, in and out, and left ashamedly. This had been one of the few times that he had not been able to figure out the reason for something. Then again, he had to be at least twelve or so, judging by his size and comparing it to his adult-size.
Most his life, Blink has lived in a humble little hut in the depths of the forest, right alongside a road that many travelers followed. When he first began living here, the hut was merely a dirt mound that he has customized and renovated to better fit his needs and style. Now it appears to be quite an unusual home, with the general illusion of being a large leaf. In reality, a giant leaf stretches over most of his home, serving as a roof, and there are parts of the leaf cut out to create squares and rectangles that were used as the windows, front door, and back door. Most who pass it who are not originally from Wonderland venture a peak inside to see why there is a giant left out here in the middle of the forest. They often find Blink lounging in a leaf chair, his feet propped up on a bamboo pole in the center that holds the top of the roof up to form a kind of tent. Various items of interest that Blink has collected over the years are scattered haphazardly around the room, and to the back there is leafy archway that leads to the back garden, or kitchen.
One day, a little after renovating his new home to better match his style, Blink was taking a nice quiet stroll through the forest, occasionally taking trips off-road to something interesting he has seen. It was beginning to be nightfall and the trip home would be treacherous in the dark; all Blink had to protect himself with was a gnarled old staff and a lantern with a candle inside that had gone out. Too tired to use his fire magic to relight the candle, Blink decided that he would have to camp out in the woods this night, Blink discovered a small glowing orb amongst a pile of leaves he had been about to lay down on for use as a bed. The orb glowed with a bright, amber light, very similar to his own light. With curiosity, Blink set the orb into his lantern and hooked the lantern to the end of his staff. It was perfect! It would be the guiding light that could lead him back to his home and if he was attack he could always slam his assailant up the side of the head with it. At once, Blink headed for home and vowed to take this lantern staff wherever he went for as long as he lived, just in case night fell a little early.

- .FIREFLY MAGIC. – Firefly Magic is an innate repertoire of spells possessed by all Firefly Humanoids [currently only Blink] that allows for the utilization of the light sack attached to their bottoms. The sack can produce non-elemental magic that takes the form of a glowing ember colored energy that flows throughout the caster’s body. Once this energy reaches an appendage, such as wings, hands, feet, antennae, etc. it can be siphoned out of the caster’s body and aimed toward an enemy. The magic is almost non-lethal, causing only a slight stinging on contact and a white burst that temporarily blinds all who watch it. Blink’s eyes are immune to this blinding. This also includes Fire
[/li][li].NATURE MAGIC. – Because of his strong connection with the nature around him, Blink is able to conjure forth and animate various forms of flora, be it trees, flowers, or even the soil of the ground itself. There are many usages to this form of magic, including:
- Thorny Assault: This spell conjures forth nearby vines to entrap an opponent, whether they have thorns on them or not, though this provides extra damage. Thorny Assault can only be used in a jungle or forest atmosphere in which vines of some sort are present.
- Earthen Defender: One of his most easily used spells; Earthen Defender musters up the soil of the earth to form walls, shields, barriers, and other protective formations. Though the process can be a slow one, the tightly packed soil can quell an incoming army if needed, though a barrier of such size would take a while to create. Earthen Defender can only be used in which soil or sand is found.
- Watery Grave: To round out Blink’s nature magic, he has the uncanny ability to manipulate nearby water into orbs, waves, or powerful waterfalls. The force in which the water flows depends on Blink’s level of concentration. Watery Grave can only be used when water is nearby, and is especially powerful in beach atmospheres.
